I. The Form/Kata contest

The referee announces the beginning and the end of every Form/Kata demonstration with a hand signal. It is immediately to be taken place at the mark from outside of the delimitation. The chosen Form/Kata is supposed to be started at once after the traditional gesture of courteousness.

II. The Fighting contest

Discipline 'Table' (Height 0.30 metres; diameter 1.10 metres; fighting takes place on the table).

Discipline 'Trunk' (Length 2.00 metres; diameter 0.45 metres; fighting takes place on the trunk).

Discipline 'Sash' (Fighting takes place blindfolded).

Discipline 'Rope' (Length 3.50 metres; fighting takes place attached to each other).

Discipline 'Room' (Fighting area min. 25 square metres; free fighting within the restricted area).

 
   
 

III. Weight categories

None. Women and men also take part in non-separated groups.

 
   

IV. Clothing and protective equipment

Traditional Gong Fu dress, kimono or school uniform with sash or belt; barefoot or light fighting shoes (no gym shoes.

Regulation: Groin guard, light hand gear (open-finger-gloves); breast protection (women).

Optional: Mouth piece, shin guards, knee-/elbow protection (under the clothes).

Forbidden: All other kinds of protective equipment is not allowed.

 
   
 

V. Valuation criteria for the fighting contest

Full contact: Strong punches on arms and legs.

Semi contact: Medium-power punches to the torso.

No contact: Anything aimed at head, genitals, larynx and breasts (women).

Allowed is the use of all extremities in form of levers, throw overs and pushes. No score is given for hits on arms and legs. The violation of the rules results in penalty points, as well as intentional and unintentional injuring of the adversary leads to immediate disqualification. In case of intention count on penal proceedings.

 
     
 

VI. Analysis

Decisive for the overall scores are the judgements of the performance in the Form/Kata and the fighting contest. Furthermore clothing, behaviour and fighting ethics will be rated as criteria of the fighting moral. Optimal prospects on winning have therefore athletes that are balanced and fair.
